I could not find a place to spend the night in Meeteetse, WY. The nearest campground was the Wood River Campground 20 miles out of town. I drove there to be the only person in the area. Checking my logs, it turned out I was supposed to go to this campground to start my fishing expedition in Wyoming.
As I slept, I realized that I was 20 miles from town, alone, and nobody knew where I was for the night. Only my friend, Mike K., has my rough itinerary, but it really isn’t much help. So, my poor children will be getting texts each night for where I am. Payback time LOL.
I fished the Wood River by the campground for about 30 minutes. The river was fast, with no pools or slow glides within my hiking / visual range. I tried a hopper / dropper, then swinging a sheep creek special down the stream. No Luck. I really don’t know how to fish this type of stream, and don’t have the energy to walk great distances along the stream.
I packed up, giving in to my pessimism. Then I remembered “WHY?”. I’m already here. I probably will never return. WHY not drive around and look for spots more conducive to my abilities. Very mature of me. I drove 5 miles up the road towards the headwaters but had to turn around when the road became a 4-wheel-drive necessity. I turned back towards Meeteetse, checking the river all the way. No luck.
So, I’m in the Cody library, at 3:30 now, finishing up these blog updates, then researching where to go next in Wyoming in my quest. Oh Well. WHY NOT. I’m already here.
Tight Lines!
