Libraries save my soul and blog, as they allow me to update my blog and filter / clean up my photos. I spent the night in a truck stop in Idaho Falls, slept in until 10 (11 here). It takes 1 – 2 hours to update a couple of days of posts, and this library was a great place to work at.
I got on the road to Butte, Montana about 1 or 2 (foggy memory). I made it into Butte with enough time to check into a fly shop, purchase some 5x tippet, of which I quickly have lost / misplaced. I did get good information about what local ponds were kid only and which were “family friendly”, allowing me to fish. we decided that Piedmont Pond, which was on my list, was a good choice and just 40 miles down the road (at 80 mph!).
I got to Piedmont Pond, after 45 minutes driving around Whitehall, Montana, to find it. Awesomely, fish were sipping just under the surface all over the pond when I arrived during sunset. I grabbed my gear and used a bobber dropper with two midges, at one and three feet below the “indicator”. Active fish were feeding everywhere, but not one to 3 feet below the surface. It got dark and I vowed to return the next day and fish as long as I had to to capture, photograph, and release a Westslope Cutthroat Trout.
