I decided to fish for Lahontan Trout in the Mary’s River of the Humboldt National Wilderness. It was raining slightly, but constantly. It turned out that the road to Mary’s River used the same great dirt road as the way to Jarbidge. The only difference was to turn right instead of left when one hits the final Jarbidge choice.
I drove the 50+ miles along 225 and took the turn to the great conditioned dirt road towards Jarbidge (North Fork Charleston Road). The rain was a little heavier, but not bad. The road was wet and a little slippery, but not too bad or dangerous. I got in about 5 miles and the road became much more slippery and I had to make constant corrections. A returning truck stopped and motioned for me to roll down my window. He said the road was very bad farther along and that he had to use 4 wheel drive to get through. The last thing I needed was to be stuck in a ditch, or down a cliff, in a rainstorm. I turned around and drove back to Elko, to the library, for contemplation and research.
I checked my options, and learned that there was a northern route into Jarbidge that was paved the whole way. I drove 2 hours to Jackpot Nevada. My ex-Uncle-in-Law talked 25+ years ago about everyone in Utah going to Jackpot to gamble. I had to get there once in my life and now was the time. I stopped at Casino 93 on a Saturday night. Wow, packed upon packed, all the tables full. Forty dollars of my bankroll went into a 9/6 video poker machine in memory of my ex Father In Law, RIP, who took me yearly to play video poker in Reno as my combination of Christmas and birthday gifts. No luck and not a single four of a kind showed up, so I left to spend the night in the Love’s Truck Stop, with permission of course.
Hopefully the rain stops and the local rivers are cleared by tomorrow.
