When I could not sleep last night, I opened up my e-copy of “The Flyfisher’s Guide To Alaska”. This book was written in 2004, and updated in 2012. I couldn’t make a lot of sense of it before my trip, as all the places described in the book were just words to me. However, Now that I’ve traveled through Alaska to the tune of several thousand miles just in Alaska, Things were coming clear.
I was shocked at how many creeks and rivers that were fishable along the roads I’ve been driving. The “Highway Angler” (below) covers EVERY road side fishing access spot in the state. Things can get overwhelming, especially when all the creeks and rivers are blown out for most of my trip. Rats!
The Flyfisher’s Guide to Alaska isn’t nearly as detailed as The Highway Angler, but does a good job of covering places along the roads that he, Scott Haugen, and his friends fish. It turns out that there might be good rivers around Anchorage that I can still fish, for Coho Salmon? And then, maybe not. I’m heading to Anchorage tomorrow to start the last phase of my trip.
