I’m ready to move on to another area to try to find Coho Salmon. However, I think I must check out Centennial Park this evening as a small run came through last night. Puttering during the day, and not having been to the town of Kenai, a quick 5-10 mile drive was taken. And, what did I find? A free admission park that allows fishing on the Kenai: Cunningham Park.
Of course I met the nicest gentleman who was getting ready to go down to the river to fish. He had been there earlier and was trying again as the tide has changed. He invited me to join him, but I decided to check out the area a little more. Two guys were flipping bobbers / flies right from the shore. Another chance for me to fish without getting my gear on.
But, Centennial Park had 6 fish caught in a hour last night. I needed to see if today would have an even better run. Unfortunately Not! I spent hours hanging around, waiting for the bite to take off, but it didn’t.
I got so frustrated with trying to find Coho that I actually considered just driving home asap, as a week of rain is forecast. With the help of my friend Mike K., I’ve decided to fish lakes around Anchorage until I have to leave Alaska due to the changing weather. So, tomorrow I head north, searching for rainbows, dolly vardens, land locked salmon, and grayling in ponds “up north”. It is still fishing, and beautiful, and that is why I’m up here.
