I slept in, had brunch, then headed to Centennial Park to get into fishing lineup. But, the parking lot was half empty, and there were open spots where one could immediately enter the water. I decided to sit in my chair and watch for a while. In the first hour, I saw one fish landed by the 20+ people in the line up. One guy in the space that had been the hotspot all week ended up catching 3 fish in an hour, with only 1 or 2 caught by others. Certainly not enough action showing that the fish have moved upstream, and it appears not as many are coming up now.
I drove the 45 miles to the Russian River and went into the fly shop that has the nice young guys working. I was asked how things were going and I said I was hooking at a little more than one per hour, but never got one to the shore. He felt awful as the fish are now in the Russian River area, but not in the Russian River yet. His friends limited out in an hour today (6 fish each), and he asked if there was a day where I had hooked a lot of fish, and I said No. He felt horrible for sending me down south only the miss the fish as they headed north. Aarrgghh.
After talking with the fly shop employee, I headed to the Russian River to see if the Red Salmon are in. NOPE. I did talk to two guys by the stream. The first stated that their buddies limited out in an hour last week (when I was there), and that the salmon should be in the Russian River in a couple of days (per his information). He was fishing for trout today.
The second guy told me that he and his buddies limited out on Pink Salmon on Resurrection Creek, about an hour away. My goal is to catch as many species of fish as I can while here, so tomorrow I’ll head out for another road trip, hunting down Pink Salmon.
Tight Lines!
