Day 31B: Centennial Park in Soldotna. A Rude Awakening

I drove down to Soldotna and got resupplies from the local Fred Meyer. Evidently, Fred Meyer allows RVs to spend the night in their parking lot, no charge. I may save some money, desperately needed, to sleep there a couple of nights.

I pulled into Centennial Park as I heard that there was “boardwalk fishing” present. Camping is 26 dollars a night, very crowded, and 8 dollars parking for an 8 hour limit. There was about 40 people in the water, taking turns casting 15 feet in front of them and letting their fly swing down. I watched for about an hour, and several people had caught several fish each, with many people fishless. I made a mental note of the riggings of the successful people.

I really don’t want to fish this way, and it will be hard to get a spot as they appear to be shared by groups of people. However, I look nice and harmless, and I probably can get into a slot.

Again, fishermen and fisherwomen are spaced more apart that on the Mad River in Arcata. On the Mad River two people would be between these 3. As stated in the caption, these three had a beautiful rhythm between them, and all three caught fish. I took a short video and now get to learn how to upload to YouTube or get it imbedded here in WordPress.

I plan to stay in this area and move up the river as the fish move. I should get out into the lineup at Centennial Park tomorrow afternoon evening. But, it will be a Saturday so all bets may be off until Monday.
