I drove into Fairbanks to get a cooked meal, some soda, and hang for a while. I returned to the campsite only to find that my spot had been taken. I found the next best spot right next to them. They were friendly and amazed at seeing me in my belly boat cruising around the lake / pond.
Unfortunately, although I fished the same area at the same time: Nothing….no bites. Such is fishing. I came in early and cooked my first meal of the trip: a can of chicken, one of corn, and one of refried beans, with tons of bbq / garlic powder. Not bad, but not worth the time and hassle of getting everything out, cleaning up, and putting away into the van.
I have a small backpacking stove, and a dc hot pot, so sandwiches and just add hot water meals are what I’m going with. I will be prepared for next year when I bike across America, using hot water for all my meal prep.
Although my phone has several free, great apps for finding camping, it is nice that I found that I had packed the book above. It is 8 years old but adds an old school approach to camping here. All is well.
