I sat at my campsite in the Tetsa Provincial Park at 1:00, wondering how close all the great fishing reported by the Fort Jones Chamber of Commerce actually was. I drove 10 miles up the highway to find the “numerous spots where the Tetsa River joins the highway”. Nothing, just beautiful scenery damn it. Muncho Lake, though very beautiful, is 143 miles from Fort Nelson.
Since this is my trip, I decided I didn’t want to fish 100 meters of river for 2 days, and the “close” great fishing spots were 40 or more miles away. So, I packed up, lost my two days of camping fees, and headed north to an area where I can fish for awhile.
Sadly, very few pictures. I was pissed as I drove 260 miles north (320 for the day) passing all the “great fishing spots” along the road. Every creek and fishable sized river were angry. Very Angry! They were high, silty, roiling, and looked dangerous as hell. I kept driving, and driving, and driving, regretting that I didn’t take a picture or two to document how bad and high the rivers were. Then I passed into the Yukon. The first two creeks I passed were clear and beautiful?
I stayed in Watson Lake last night. I have to get a license for this territory, and have to figure out where the hell to fish. I may take one of the cutoffs / side branches of the Alcan Highway for better, hell, any fishing. Nothing like driving 6 hours, passing many rivers and creeks, and all of them blown out. Guess I left for this trip too early. At least I know there will be catchable fish in Alaska.
Until Then. Tight Lines!
Hi Shane, Well you sure are covering some territory but unfortunate about the river conditions. Sounds like you have your van organized and comfy with a job well done feeling. Now go catch some F….king fish. Butterfly orgies don’t cut it, fish pictures do. Look forward to your next report. Are you getting skinny yet, eating the same ? Drive safe. Don
