The question is always, are you hurt, or are you injured? My calf is loosening up but my knee is worrisome. No tender spots but really tight when I get up to walk. I’m hoping I’m just hurt and the stiffness will go away over the next couple of days.
On to the Canadian border. A four hour drive from Yakima, but worth resting my knee and getting into British Columbia. I got to the border, and after telling the guy that I planned to be camping and fishing for 7 weeks, he sent me to the vehicle inspection area. I must look like “that guy”, the one who has a record. I was asked where I was going, and why. “Did someone tell you to come here”? And, “have I ever been involved with the police”? “Not even a DUI”? I told them that my dad was a policeman and that sort of explained to them why I didn’t have a record? “Oh, you were kept on a tight leash!” They checked out my van….no drugs, guns, fruit from America. As they welcomed me and allowed me to go, one of the guards stated “you have a lot of stuff in there”.
So, it is 4:30 PM as I enter Canada. I stop in the border shopping area to use the ATM to get Canadian money, and celebrate with a large bag of bbq flavored chips. They were great but my body didn’t like them. I figured to head towards Kamloops BC, about 3 hour drive, as the fishing between the border and Kamloops was not described as worth the effort. Alas, I made it to Hope, and decided I needed to find a place to sleep. I checked a couple of RV parks and they looled more like a homeless camps to me. I looked online and found a Provincial Park and Campground, about 10 miles away, called Silver Lake.
There were plenty of spots at Silver Lake, and the campground was beautiful, and clean. I made the right choice and had a great night’s sleep, setting my alarm to an early 10 AM. Tomorrow I head to Kamloops to: 1) get a license; 2) get information about all the lakes in the area; and 3) to get to a campsite early so I can continue to make the van a comfortable home for the next 3 to 4 months.
Fish will eventually be shown on this blog, and hopefully some videos too. Right now I’m in the shake down part of the trip, but I’m already getting near the great fishing. My plan was to cross the border on day 11, and I’m happy that I’m in Canada on day 7. More time to explore.
Tight Lines!
