So, I woke up all ready to take two rods out: 1) my 5 weight for stripping and trolling; and 2) my 3 weight for dropping one of my new green midges below a bobber. Upon trying to get two rods safely in a belly boat, I decided that I could easily just use my 5 weight for both styles of fishing.
I got out at 2 expecting to stay out until 6. However, a huge wind came up at 2:30 and blew me to the middle of the lake. I spent 15 – 20 minutes just paddling like hell to get back to shore. Fish wise, not so bad. I landed 3 of 4 hooked fish, in an hour (counting trolling time trying to save my life on shore—-might as well have a fly in the water). It was a slow day for everyone on the lake. However, I was exhausted from paddling into the wind from the center of the lake. So, I deflated the belly boat and packed up to leave in the morning.
