Again, I got out of the van at 11:30 AM. I am refreshed. I hope to be able to spend 2 or more hours today on the lake. I enjoyed float tubing, and I’ve moved the seat back upright to give me support. The rains have left, although some look just off the mountains edges. My nearest neighbor just pulled in a large fish, probably about 20 inches. Much bigger than what I was catching yesterday. It is a little windy (1:15), but fish are already showing just off of the bank. Time to get brunch and get on the water. I’m going to try to set up my go pro 10 to film the action. Only because it could be really cool.
I actually had my first real session of fishing today, three hours. I stopped because of exhaustion. Not as crazy as last night (14 hookups in 90 minutes). I hooked 9 fish in three hours, with two jumbos, my second and last fishes of the day. The fish just weren’t in the area today. Maybe the storm last night moved them to another part of the lake? If a fish rose within casting range, they would hit the bead head Louise Special immediately, usually with just a hard bump but not a full take.
One boat went out about 3:00 to an area just off shore. They hammered the fish for about 20 minutes. Everybody here, except Tom and me, are using bobbers and droppers. I have a rod holder for my float tube, and my 3 weight is all set up for bobber dropping. Perhaps I’ll go out tomorrow with two rods, bobber dropping when not much else is happening.
When the “boat guys” came back I asked what they were using under their indicators. The head guy stated “Chironomids”, showed me the pattern, and gave me two. I spent a half hour tying up 6 (pic above) with what I could find in my van.
It was a good day. I actually fished a full session and had a great time doing it. I’m staying at Scuitto Lake through tomorrow night, so maybe I can fish two methods and for longer than three hours. Just like improving exercise, just more fun.
