With my adventure about to start, I most likely will be wearing fishing boots on the trip more that I have in total the last ten years. However, my three pairs of wading boots all have felt soles. Unfortunately, many states and Canada now ban felt soled boots. As money seems to be flowing from my account unregulated on this trip, I decided to find a cheaper alternative to 200 dollar plus wading boots.
I purchased a waterproof pair of rubber soled Eddie Bauer boots for $45. Using a suggestion from Internet searches, I found that some people are putting motorcycle ice racing tire studs into their wading boots. About $30 for 200? studs. Not bad for creating an inexpensive pair of studded wading boots.
Following Internet Instructions, I kept the studs mostly along the edges of the boots. Also, I put the studs in depressions in the soles to make the studs not much higher than the soles.
The bug screen (yesterday’s post) has been delayed. To keep the edges tight and bug proof I need to use magnetic tape. It is on order and should be here the 16th. That’s okay as I’ve moved back my starting date for the trip to the 21st or 22nd. No rush…..
Tight Lines All!!
