I hate mosquitoes. They, at least the females, love me. I don’t know if is my blood type or my weird irresistibility from insects and spiders. The van door for my Chevy Astro has some weird curves on the edges of the openings, due to the sliding door. The horrible and ugly presentation is explained below.
I cut two rectangles from a large sheet of No See Um sized screen. The edges were strengthened with folded over Gorilla Tape. The tape will eventually pull apart. I bought staples to add strength but can’t find one of the half dozen staplers I’ve collected over the years. And I found that what I thought was a factory edge wasn’t square. Aarrgghh.
As evidenced from the photo, the inside edges are not upright due to forcing the edges around the sides of the van opening. The screens were put up with Gorilla Tape, then 1/2 inch screws with oversized washers to secure them, drilled into the folded tape edges. Small magnets were used to attach the two screens in the “middle”. Unfortunately, there are many openings along the screen connection due to the overlapped tape edges.
So, I have to move the magnets away from the edges so the screens are connected flat to one another. The silver magnet in the bottom area showed me that the magnets will flatten the screens together if the magnets are in the middles of the screens.
As for sealing the bottom of the screens, that will depend on some ingenuity. The more I screw down edges of the screens, the smaller the entry way becomes. I can’t complain as I didn’t plan on having a screen door, but perhaps I can continue and create a horribly ugly, but workable set of screens.
On to Tomorrow. Tight Lines!
