Right after my last post around April 10, I did some online research to see how to best prepare during the last eight weeks before my bike trip across America. Evidently, I should have been riding 60 miles twice per week back in March. With eight weeks before my trip, I realized that trying to get in shape in 7 or 8 weeks would have left me most likely injured. Therefore, next summer’s plane (2023) became the plan for this summer.
I will now be camping for 3 to 4 months, from northern California, throughout Oregon, from the Canadian border to Dawson Creek BC, and then along the Alcan Highway to Anchorage, Alaska. I plan to arrive in Anchorage on the 15th of August, just in time for the Silver Salmon to run up the rivers. Six to eight weeks in Alaska and then the drive home.
At this late date (still planning to leave on the 15th of June), I find myself with the impossible task of getting my camper full of camping, fishing, and fly tying materials. I have 9 spots available for shoeboxes inside the van, but I have 30 boxes to put in, not counting clothes. The next few days will be interesting, but I will figure out what to leave behind and what to take.
I will be blogging throughout the trip, and will attempt to upload videos of my fishing adventures to my blog and Youtube. Hang in there reader. I certainly am.
