I had a nice holiday over on the coast with my kids and my ex-wife (ex). I stayed at her boyfriend’s place and cat sit an absolutely wonder cat, but never took his picture aarrgghh. The cat above is Oliver, a six month old kitten taking permanent residence at my ex’s place. I met him a month or two ago and he was a wild, wild, kitten. He is now a wonderful young boy, full of energy in the morning, but mellow and calm(er) in the afternoon and evening. A wonderful young boy.
I headed over to the coast again yesterday. It turns out my hearing aids both had the receivers fall from the end of the ear piece into the body of the ear piece….thus, lots of feedback and the reason why I’ve not been hearing conversations well for the last 6 months. My hearing aids are en route to repair, so I’m left now with no hearing aids and it is horrible. Oh well, so much for hearing things in my world.
However, my ex helped me in my storage unit for an hour yesterday, and my son helped me today for 90 minutes. The end of clearing out the storage unit and getting rid of the monthly cost, is close. The big thing is I have to make room over here to move my stuff over. That will be the biggest challenge yet, but like all challenges, worth putting effort into it.
I’m ringing in the new year by tying size 18 Zebra Midges on 2x heavy straight hooks (bottom center) and 1x strong, 1x short scud hooks. I used my really good camera to zoom in and ended up with sharp in focus green bead zebra midges in the upper right and the rest are blurry…..hopefully not to the fish.
The word on the lake, or the shore around it, is that midges are working but it is hard to find the fish. Fish are supposed to be up by the dam but difficult to get to take a fly.
So, I’m abandoning PT Nymphs for a while and tying up fast to tie bead head zebra midges. A half dozen each in clear, red, green, and purple beads, with beadless wire bodied midges at the center bottom.
I plan to get out on the lake tomorrow, weather permitting. Trolling leeches and soaking midges will be the starting plan of the day. It will be a happy new year for me and hopefully all of you.
Happy New Year a couple of hours early in this time zone!
