Hard to believe it has been 12 days since my last post. Nothing horrible going on. I’m just puttering. Events over the last 12 days include:
Fished over a week ago with two really good fishermen from the Shasta Flyfishing Club. Nothing was happening all day. I landed two fish casting a blackberry mohair leech towards rising fish. Fortunately, they hit it fly.
I worked out 6 days in a row and it wiped me out. I was exhausted for 3 days and could just hang around the house. Total exhaustion.
I then spent 4 days with 3 trips to town to put racks on my bike. I have a front rack on the 20 inch wheel, racks under the seat, and a rear rack. Four days of no fishing after 3 days of rest–there went a week.
Saturday was spent at Blue Lake Casino. I went there for the big Fall Poker tournament but decided to forego it to play live poker. I lasted 7 hours but had too many beers and had to head back to my room, with a slight loss, but not nearly as bad as it could have been.
I headed to the coast to see my friend Mike. I had promised to buy him all his food and drinks during our session, and he didn’t eat or drink anything. I’ll get him next time.
Ortlieb Panniers are the best bike panniers on the market. They are also expensive. I was just browsing REI the other night and they were having a 25% off sale on all Ortlieb Panniers. I bought 3 sets, in red (for visibility). One large set for the back, two small sets for under the seat and above the front wheel. All the bike needs now is the motor and battery.
I made a mistake on my weight estimates. With the racks and panniers and me the bike is at it’s maximum weight of 300 pounds. I forgot about the battery so the battery and motor add 25 pounds, and 40 pounds for gear (CPAP machine and batteries are heavy).
So, I have to lose 60 to 65 pounds in 6 months just to start the trip. How will I do it? Easy! No ice cream or beer for 6 months, with 5 hours of exercise bike per week. I’ve been consuming 9000 calories per week in beer and ice cream while holding my weight stable. 9000 calories equals 2.5 pounds. 5 hours on the bike equals 3500 calories so eating 2000 calories per day with exercise and without ice cream and beer and it is all done, 3.5 pounds per week!
I fished for 3 hours today. I just trolled around and at 2:30 I started hooking fish around the north end of the marina island. I landed 4 and lost even more hookups. I did land a 20 inch fish as measured by my de-liar Measure Net. I know, no pic, no proof. It wasn’t much fun though. I stripped it in like a little fish and it swam into my net. No fight. At least it wasn’t tired when I released it.
That’s a pretty good list for 12 days of no blogging. I had fun but now it is time to get back to exercise and fishing.
Tight Lines!
