I spent the last two hours of the evening tonight trolling and midge fishing. I did land one fish midge fishing when I let the float soak unattended while I rigged up the trolling pole. The fish hooked itself and ran away from the boat so it was still on the line by the time I got to the rod.
I have purchased a two rod license for the rest of this year. However, one trolling rod is taking some getting used to. The slowest speed on my gas motor pulls the side dodger to the surface. I was able to keep the dodger and lure underwater using my trolling motor. I landed two trolling and I’m happy to say that the FLUR I was using was working well. I had more than 6 other takes and hookups that got off before I could get the rod out of the holder.
I’m frustrated with the number of hookups that get off. I’m using barbed hooks that I don’t really like, but I’m keeping them barbed to be consistent once I use nightcrawlers as I think most trollers on the lake do not use barbless hooks. But I am amazed that a lot of hooked fish get off before I even get to the rod.
Well, tomorrow I’m doing and back and forth to Eureka to pick up my recumbent bike. And then, nothing but exercising on my stationary bike and fishing. Not a bad life.
