I headed over to Redding yesterday to attend the annual Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers Banquet. I did sign up for the never-ending wine glass, and perhaps took it a little too far getting my money’s worth. I knew only one person in the entire room, and I bumped into him at the end of the banquet.
I knew I would be drinking wine at the event, so I got a room at the Win River Hotel and Casino, the spot that held the banquet. The food was excellent as was the company at table 2. I picked table 2 because on several occasions the buffet order was equal to the numerical order of the tables. Alas, the STFF is very smart and randomly selected the tables. We were 4th lol.
I didn’t have any money for the auction or silent auction items…as I’ve been putting items on my Visa account like a drunk sailor, getting materials for my trip next summer. However, I did have 30 tickets for the “bucket raffle” where tickets were placed into cups in front of items you hoped to win. I didn’t want flies or earrings, so my options were limited. However, I had my eye on a book of fly patterns. Thus, I was destined to win it as I usually do well at raffles.
I won the book I wanted. However, the girl bringing me the book headed in the wrong direction and I stumbled up to the front with the President of the club, stating that “my number was called”. The President told the girls to just give it to me, which made me think that I wasn’t coming across well due to the wine. So, I said “no problem, this is for the club”. When I got back to my seat the girl finally made it to my table and gave me my prize.
Things were cooling off at the end of the banquet so I headed down to the casino floor to play my free $10 promo that was at each seat. I played a triple bonus poker at 25 cents, $1.25 for maximum payout. I lasted a couple of hands until I was given quad 3’s, and was paid $300. That was enough to pay for the entire weekend, but of course I then played 3-5 poker with a lot of money being bet and won over the course of an hour. My pocket queens lost to a flush on the river, costing me a loss of $200 (pots were $400+ on average). So, I kept $100 profit to offset my hotel bill.
Training Update: I rode the Sacramento River Trail for 40 minutes to a distance of 5.6 miles. The pain of the trip was that on a flat surface one never gets to coast. My legs were killing me. And, there was only one small incline but I could not make it up. I had to walk my bike up the hill. I will need to get a pedal assist system as hills are too difficult for me in a recumbent.
I had planned on riding the trail again this morning, but I had too much wine the night before to get on a bike in the morning. I’ll remember that on my trip lol.
