I have to paint the floor of my boat, but it is too hot to work outside until 7 PM. However, the fishing has been too great to not get on the water in the evening. Evidently the word is out and 3 to 5 boats are out in the area each evening.
Two nights ago was a great evening fishing at 10 mile. I fished for 5 hours, my longest session this year. The first fishes I caught were 15, 16, and 18 inches long. It was a great start and I landed 6 fish 15 inches or larger over the night. I stopped counting the number of fish landed at 15, because it didn’t seem to matter as the fishing was consistent and fun.
Around 7 PM the fish were rising everywhere, all around my boat. Fish were rising 5 feet off my bow. However, they were refusing a stripped fly so I switched to a size 16 zebra midge. My bobber was getting bumped almost immediately. Within a minute of the first cast the bobber dropped down and line started peeling off. It was a 17 inch rainbow. Incredible fun and the second fish was almost as large.
It was a memorable evening that had a little bit of everything.
Last night the conditions were different, lots of wind with very few fish rising during the two hours I fished. It was a slow night, but I did land a 15 incher as I was trolling my fly to get it wet as I moved to my anchor spot. A dozen fish were caught with 2 from trolling, 2 from nymphing, and 8 from stripping a sheep creek special. Another fun evening.
