Day 14: A long day of discovery, and yes, I walked a little bit —-Part 2
Tuesday March 15, 2016
Afternoon:
I was ready to take a long nap, but we had arranged to go to Kawasan Falls (there are 3 levels). Our driver was our guide. We arrived (after weaving through 100+ trikes moving in Moalboal), got out, and then our guide happily stated that is was about a 30 minute walk. A Thirty Minute Walk….doesn’t he know I collapsed in both the Seoule and Cebu airports…..that I could only walk 10 steps in the Ayala Mall without having to catch my breath…..why the hell didn’t he tell us that. Side note: there are many motorcycle riders who will take you up to the falls….but I forgot my money!!!!
Thankfully our group had a curious 8 year old who observed everything along the ground (finding a dead toad, a live injured mouse, a giant worm, a mother hen with adorable babies, and probably a dozen or so more things I didn’t see. I kept up with the 8 year old and made it to the falls.
The river was crystal clear with a nice walkway to the falls
There were shops along the way for treats and refreshments. This particular one was the entrance booth.
There were two locations where freshly washed clothes were hanging to dry.
We made it to the falls. Rafts are available for 300 P ($6.50) and they can pull you all over the lagoon using their rope systems.
A rafter after a photo shoot.
Yes, I occasionally allow my photo to be taken. This is after swimming.
This is proof that I did go swimming.
There is a concession stand / restaurant at the lower falls. Below is a local family getting accustomed to the water.
This was an amazing set of circumstances that made me realize: 1) that people are people; and 2) Filipino families want to have fun at every possible moment.
The family below had completed their photographs with loved ones. I was about 50 feet away and was about to take a picture. When one of their group noticed me, a person unknown to them, taking a picture, they started screaming and waving as if I was a relative taking their picture.
This is the 3rd of three pictures. Notice that the women are being enthusiastic showing their joy. The adult men are happy with big smiles, one with open arms. And, young boys around the world will always be young boys. Note the young boy in the front, in the orange vest, giving the double flipped bird lol. He did that in all 3 pictures. I guess he hasn’t grown into the fun loving adult yet…..but, truth be told, he was having a blast. He probably had more fun than any of the others. People are people, kids are kids, that is what is so great, for me, about travel.
Below is the family that took me in for the day (and the afternoon before) After traveling and snorkeling twice with them (hotel, whale sharks), and taking a second tour to Kawasan Falls, I would travel anywhere in the world to meet up with them (probably shouldn’t let them know lol). I owe them big time, and even a little cash (they paid for the table (300 P)), as, again, I didn’t bring any money aarrgghh.
There were two more falls above. They were a little precarious for the young boys, and I’m sure too exhaustive for me. We declined and headed back out.
Planet Fitness when I get back. I want to be in shape to do the things I want to do when traveling….at least I have another reason to exercise / get healthy other than feeling better and living longer. Maybe one more reason and I’ll actually do it. Take care.
