I am glad I chose the expensive route to Turtle Bay Resort. My driver was good…crazy…but with the many scooters zipping in and out and the trikes (scooters with side cars), I’m glad I had a good driver. Next time I’ll try to get a picture of 4 people on a scooter…the 4th a 2 year old boy held out over the road by his mother. No helmets, all wearing flip flops. WOW
The reality of being in a 3rd world country has really hit. Everywhere along the road are small businesses, people sitting in the shade, and little kids running around and along the road. I don’t think I could take witnessing a cardboard village.
AND then I’m living in decadence…staying at a resort where a San Miguel beer is $2.50, but it isn’t worth the scooter ride over dirt roads to purchase some in town. I guess some of this particular experience is going to come out of my retirement slush fund.
I am on the coast, isolated from the rest of the Philippines and humanity. The rich of the rich are here and so am I. It is a beautiful resort as long as you can forget the experience of traveling here.
First off, I arrived at Beer 3:30 as expected, as shown below:
My room has a tv with no reception and no wifi. But, I didn’t come here for those. And, it has the greatest bathroom ever (my size).
And, starting tomorrow….all I have to do is jump off the docks, take my waterproof Olympus TG-4 camera, and start taking pictures of the fish. On the second morning here I my take a tour to swim with the Whale Sharks, and of course, a trip out to the nearest island for swimming in sardine balls (balls of sardines you sick people).
Almost forgot…I also have to see the local falls / lagoon that is constantly shown on Facebook. I may be here for another day, and another paycheck.
I’ll enjoy the beauty….but I’ll keep it in perspective.
